Scripture Text: Ephesians 1:16-17 TLB
INTRODUCTION
In the book of Proverbs, there is a profound verse of scripture that deals with the ever present need for wisdom. It is found in Proverbs 4:7, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Wow! What a word! Wisdom is the principal thing. In other words, wisdom is the main thing. Wisdom is the primary thing. If you intend to get something, make sure that the first thing on your list is this, “Get wisdom!”
A lot of people have knowledge. But you can have knowledge and still lack the wisdom to apply that knowledge. Wisdom is not just the principal or primary thing to get. It is also the practical thing to get. Wisdom is knowing what to do and HOW to do it.
No wonder the Apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesians to get wisdom. He wanted God “to give them wisdom to see clearly and really understand who Christ is and all that he has done for you” (The Living Bible). When you have wisdom, especially spiritual wisdom, you know who Christ is and all he has done for you.
You also know who you are and what you have in Christ. You are a child of God, an heir of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ (Rom 8:16-17). Being an heir means you have an inheritance among those who are sanctified (Acts 28:18). If the devil ever tries to tell you otherwise, you are not at a loss. You know what to do! Like David, you know that you have God’s permission to pursue, overtake and recover all (1Sam. 30:8)!
